District IX


This is the second year for the CCAS. Clarion news sportswriter Chris Rosetti started this feature last year and Mark Parkison has continued the work this year.


CLARION - The votes are in for the 2000 All-Clarion County Wrestling team. The head coaches of the Clarion County wrestling teams made the selections. When a discrepancy occurred in weight classes voting, the CLARION NEWS intervened and made the pick. *103-pounds *Keith Pavlekovsky of Redbank Valley. Pavlekovsky registered a 34-4 record this year and finished second in District IX and seventh in the state. The sophomore finished third in the northwest regional bracket. Pavlekovsky won the Blairsville, Grove City and Redbank Valley Christmas tournaments and also the Mid-Season Classic. Pavlekovsky has a career record of 48-18. Keith is the son of Tom and Sonia Pavlekovsky of New Bethlehem. 112-pounds *Joe Garrison of Redbank Valley. Garrison had a record of 17-16 this year and finished third at the Mid-Season Classic. The sophomore placed fourth at the Grove City tournament. Joe is the son of Natalie Henry of Distant. 119-pounds *Greg Nolf of Redbank Valley. The sophomore Nolf compiled a 15-11 record and won the District IX championship in the 119 despite competing in the 130-pound bracket for a good portion of the year. Nolf finished second at the Mid-Season Classic and third at the Redbank Valley Christmas Tournament. Greg is the son of Greg and Jennifer Nolf of Mayport. *Bryan Kiskadden of Clarion Area. Kiskadden had a 23-8 record this year as a sophomore. The two-year letter winner placed fourth in the District IX tournament and finished third in the Mid-Season Classic, the Rocky Grove tournament and the Salamanca tournament in New York. Bryan is the son of Ted and Karen Kiskadden of Shippenville. 125-pounds *Matt Watterson of Clarion Area.?Watterson compiled a 22-6 record this season as a sophomore. A two-year letter winner, Watterson placed second in the District IX championships and won the Rocky Grove and Mid-Season Classic. Matt is the son of Karen Watterson of Shippenville. 130-pounds *Heath Slagle of Redbank Valley. Slagle registered a record of 12-9 this season and finished second at the Mid-Season Classic. A senior, Slagle placed third at the Redbank Valley Christmas Tournament. Slagle is the son of Gary Slagle of Templeton. 135-pounds *Levi Mohney of the Allegheny-Clarion Valley/ Keystone/ Union cooperative team. Mohney compiled an 11-7 record this season as a freshman at Keystone High School. Levi is the son of Beth Jones of Shippenville and Shawn Mohney of New Bethlehem. 140-pounds *Gordon Farley of Redbank Valley. Farley had a record of 13-15 this year and placed fourth at the Mid-Season Classic. Farley is a senior. Gordon is the son of R. David and Ann Farley of New Bethlehem. 145-pounds *Matt Brinker of Redbank Valley. Brinker compiled a 21-4 record this season and finished second in the District IX tournament. Brinker won the Blairsville and the Redbank Valley Christmas tournaments and finished second at the Mid-Season Classic. A senior, Brinker leaves Redbank Valley with a 98-27 career record. Matt is the son of Gary Brinker of Hawthorn. 152-pounds *Chad Reed of Clarion Area. Reed compiled a 14-12 record this year as a senior co-captain. A four-year letter winner, Reed placed second at the Rocky Grove tournament and fourth at the Salamanca tournament. Reed is the son of Lori and Mark Reed of Clarion. *Grant Everett of Redbank Valley. Everett, a senior, compiled an 8-14 record this year and finished fourth at the Redbank Valley Christmas Tournament. Grant is the son of Robert and Barb Everett of Templeton. 160-pounds *Nathan Gourley of Redbank Valley. Gourley registered a record of 24-6 this year and finished second in District IX. Gourley won the Mid-Season Classic. The senior placed second at the Blairsville, Grove City and Redbank Valley Christmas tournaments. For his career Gourley has a record of 77-40. Nathan is the son of Larry and Janet Gourley of New Bethlehem. 171-pounds *Kyle Cathcart of Clarion Area.?Cathcart compiled a 34-0 record this season and won the state championship at the class AA level. The 34 wins are a new school record. The sophomore won the northwest regional title, the District IX title, his second and placed first in the Rocky Grove and the Salamanca tournaments and at the Mid-Season Classic. Cathcart's is only the third Clarion Area wrestler to win a regional title and is the second to win a state championship. For his career, Kyle has a record of 59-4. Kyle is the son of Randy and Sue Cathcart of Clarion. 189-pounds *Ted Lawrence of Clarion Area. Lawrence registered a 19-6 record this year and placed fourth in the District IX tournament. The junior two-year letter winner won the Rocky Grove tournament and placed second in the Salamanca tournament and fourth at the Mid-Season Classic. Ted is the son of Bobbi Lawrence. Heavyweight *Chris Pavlekovsky of Redbank Valley. Pavlekovsky compiled a 23-10 record this year and placed third in the District IX championships. Pavlekovsky finished second at the Grove City and Redbank Valley Christmas tournaments and also at the Mid-Season Classic. The senior placed fourth at the Blairsville tournament and leaves Redbank Valley with a career record of 60-34. Chris is the son of Tom and Sonia Pavlekovsky of New Bethlehem.
