Somebody forgot to tell the Bulldogs how it was supposed to work out??? Redbank made the drop for Districts tonight and it paid off in huge dividends.

With Frank Magagnotti injured, the decision to go to 103 was made a little easier for Keith Pavlekovsky. Looking a little worse for the wear from his battle with the scales, the Bulldog senior looked a little tentative, but still piled up a 9-3 win. Scoring first with a snap-by off a front headlock, Pav attacked with a half Nelson, a tilt, and a spiral ride, but ran out the period. Starting down, Pav hit a switch to his left and came back with a tripod to the right for his reversal and a 4-0 lead. After a short blood time for Enzo, Pav cut him loose with an optional start and scored another takedown with a basic snap and spin. (Redbank got a lot of mileage out of that move tonight...) He would score off that once again this period and end it 8-2 when his cross-face cradle was called off by the buzzer. He would come back to that in the third, since Enzo elected down - but could score no points. Brookville was warned for stalling twice in that period, tacking on a penalty point for the 9-3 decision.

Joe Garrison ran up his takedown totals with a series of take-em-down, cut-em-loose moves. Opening with a barrel roll, Joe scored twice more off a deep double to end the first period 6-2. Kerle taking down, Garrison cut him immediately and countered a single attempt with a spladle that ended in stalemate. Going back to the deep double twice more, Garrison continued to score. After the second takedown, Kerle indicated an injury [knee] while going down, causing a two-point nearfall to record - and since it was his second I.T. Garrison got his choice on the re-start. Another takedown ended the period 14-4. Taking neutral for his choice in the third, Joe G scored one more takedown, and a flurry out-of-bounds ended in another injury call - and termination of the match.

Greg Nolf made a BIG cut from 130 to 119 for tonight's match and made it stand up for a 4-2 win. Hunter Bullers was in deep several times in the first minutes and Nolf saved himself with a whizzer or a back hook each time. Nolf then went on the offense and Bullers went out of bounds under attack several times. 0-0. Nolf came at Hunter hard in the 2nd, attacking on top with a spiral ride, repeated attempts at a head lever, a near-score on a tilt that Bullers was able to roll through - and finally securing a tight bar that earned a N2. The hammerlock and a power half yielded no further points. Opting down in the third, Nolf switched, but Bullers followed and locked up a bar of his own, scoring a N2 and tying the match briefly before Nolf reversed out of the scramble to go up 4-2.

In what was arguably the match of the night, Brookville transplant Seth Hammond scored big for the Bulldogs. Derek Bullers scored first and worked a spiral - and a Turk - but Hammond kept working underneath and locked up the Peterson roll. In a MAJOR move, Bullers rolled Hammond through the Peterson and held him long enough for a N2 and a 4-0 lead. Bullers elected down in the second and immediately hit a nice high roll, but Hammond caught him and held him for a N3. Working through that, Bullers eventually reversed (now 6-3 his way) and attacked with a reverse headlock. As often happens with that move, it came loose on the way over and Hammond was able to catch Bullers in mid-roll, score the reversal and make it stick for the fall in 3:40!! Truly a backbreaker for the Brookville team.

Scott Smith made a first period takedown and a late headlock on the line stand up for a 5-2 win over Josh Kiehl at 130.

Jim Carpino finally got Brookville on the scoreboard, although McCauley's keeping it down to a simple decision was a moral victory of sorts - the Raiders needed bonus points bad by now. Carpino slid behind for two early - and tried to work his guillotine, but Brady was able to stalemate that situation. In the 2nd, Jim C worked a Peterson roll for five points - reversal and N3. Having no luck on his feet or the bottom earlier, McCauley took top in the third. It produced no luck, as Carpino reversed into a crab ride, but not only could not score, but came loose and gave up the reversal and almost some back points. After McCauley let a leg-elevator get loose, Carpino stepped over for another R2 and in ended 11-4.

Tanner Huffman dominated Charlie Powell at 140 - scoring deep and early with an ankle pick that went to the back for T2 and N3. Tanner was working a cradle in the second when Powell stood and cut away for E1 - then Huffman came back with a single. As Charlie pulled him up off his leg, Tanner came right to the head for a headlock and the fall @ 3:53. Big win!

Doug Shick, in one of his few varsity outings this year, was outmatched by Clint Stout. Stout scored a T2 and worked a cross-arm tilt for a N2 before securing a tight hammerlock & lace-arm for the fall in 1:46.

Doug Nolf had a nip-and-tuck bout with Jim Kessler. Nolf scored late in the first after a lot of trading of shots. A counter move at the buzzer gave him the first T2. Working a bar and wrist in the second, Nolf picked up an N3 and almost got rolled through at the same time. After the E1, a headlock attempt was cut short by the buzzer - and Nolf led 5-1 after 2. Nolf got out on a standing switch, then hit a nice barrel roll for the T2. Kessler scored an E1 close to the line, and Nolf must have thought he was OB, because he relaxed and let Kessler jump on him for the T2... a quick reversal and it ended 10-4 at the buzzer.

Tony Morres caught Dustin Huffman early in a deep double, but Huffman did a nifty back roll that went OB to save the shot. Dustin cam back with an attempt at a standing cradle that moved into a high single. Finishing with a leg sweep for the T2, Huffman dropped into the crossbody ride, but was cut short by the buzzer. Morres stood from the bottom in the second and walked out of Huffman's cradle attempt for the E1. A nice snap and spin counter to Morres' shot gave RV another T2 and a 4-1 lead after two periods. Huffman reversed off bottom and locked up a tight far cradle for five more, ending the match 9-1 - a major decsion that put four more on the board and sealed the match for the night. At 34-9 and only three bouts left, there was no way for the Raiders to catch up.

And Mr. Mo was on a roll, as RV continued to win the close ones. Ron Geist got caught in a standing cradle attempt by Kirk Hays at 171, but was able to roll out when it went to the mat - nearly scoring in the process, but it all went O.B. Geist worked his bar-arm all second period, but there was no score - and both wrestlers were warned for stalling. Geist hit several switch attempts off bottom in the third but could not finish any of them so the bout went to OT. Off the whistle, Geist hit a NICE fireman's carry that got a little sloppy on the finish, but he got control, scored the T2, and put it away 2-0.

At 189 and 275, both teams are pretty even with wrestlers that are less than seasoned. Andrew Kespehler scores first at 189 with a reversal in the 2nd but can't hang on and it goes to 2-1. Andrew hit a sloppy headlock that almost got him in trouble, but the action went OB. Saved by the line. In the third, Mark K hit a stnd-and-cut that got him the E1 and tied the match 2-2. Andrew tried a snap-and-spin but Mark was able to cut away from it. Brookville came back with a strong double-leg attempt that went OB. With 5 sec, Andrew scored the winning T2 on a shrug.

At 275, Boozer and Bashline traded injury times in the first, but otherwise not much happened. Bashline got his E1 in the second, and Boozer got his in the third. in the closing moments, Bashline got underneath, Boozer secured a front headlock - and got the T2 on a snap-and-spin for a 3-1 win, holding Brookville to single digits for the first time this season.

This is Redbank's first win over Brookville since 1993 [when RV beat them 30-29 at Brookville, on their senior night]. It's also probably the greatest margin of victory for a Redbank win over Brookville. Nice finish to a turnaround season (RV was 4-9 last year) and a nice treat for the senior parents. Well done, Bulldogs.
