Nolf earns runner-up honors

RICHMOND, Va. - Redbank Valley's Greg Nolf placed second at 130 pounds to lead the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish in the 23-team Richmond Invitational.

Kallam, Va., which placed fourth in the Class AAA state championships last season, won the tournament with 215 points. Franklin County, Va., was second with 172, Herndon was third with 1531/2 and Redbank was fourth with 153.

"It was a great experience," Bulldog coach Mike Kundick said. "I was impressed with our guys. We scored a lot of bonus points and had a lot of pins. There was good competition from the quarterfinals on."

Nolf posted a 4-1 record on his way to his runner-up finish.

Frank Magagnotti and Keith Pavlekovsky placed third for Redbank after losing close bouts in the semifinals.

Magagnotti, who lost 4-2 in the semifinals, compiled a 5-1 record. Pavelkovsky, a two-time PIAA state placewinner, dropped a 13-10 verdict in the semifinals and finished with a 4-1 mark.

Seth Hammond rounded out the Bulldog placewinners with a fourth-place finish at 125 pounds.

Coming up one win short of placing were Scott Smith and Doug Nolf, both of whom had 4-2 records.

Redbank Valley will return to action Wednesday when it hosts St. Marys.
