PORT ALLEGANY -- The Towanda Black Knights wrapped up an 18-win season here
Saturday with decisions over Port Allegany and Coudersport. The Knights, in
bettering last year's 17 victories, defeated Port Allegany 51-22 and added a
46-14 win over Coudersport. The 18 wins ties a Black Knight record for the
most wins in a single season -- equaling the mark set by three other squads.
Joel Vanderpool earned a pair of wins of the day -- giving him 93 for his
career and moving him into sixth place on Towanda's all-time list.
Vanderpool was tied with Tim Tuttle at 91 victories before pinning Port
Allegany's B.J. Greenman in 1:23 and then earning an 11-1 major decision
over Coudersport's Justin Lomax -- the third time he has defeated the
three-time district placefinisher and runner-up last year. Joe Benjamin and
Mitch Webster, with their pins in the Port Allegany match, both reached the
20-win total for this season. Benjamin pinned Lewis Windsor in 3:21 and
Webster followed with a 3:10 pinning of Shawn Griffith. Roger Chilson and
J.W. Lamphere also netted falls against Port Allegany. Chilson pinned Jake
Windsor in 1:30, and Lamphere defeated Joe Kephart in 3:41. Jon Perry
defeated Garrett Smith 4-3. Joe Vanderpool, Adam Snell and David Ausem
received forfeits. In the win over Coudersport, Ausem, T.K. Spencer and
Russell Snyder recorded falls. Ausem pinned Mark Morales in 5:02. Spencer
defeated Dave Hess in 1:07, and Snyder was a 65-second winner over Todd
Simkins. Lamphere edged Don Kudrick in a 9-7 score. Chilson won an 8-6
decision over Brandon Rohrer. Jed Delamater took an 8-2 win from Eric
Delong. Tim Reeve was a 6-1 winner over Jesse Bova. Kyle Bennett and Joe
Vanderpool received forfeits.
