A Clean sweep here for 10-1, 2, 3. Carpino of Brockway (9-2) victim of another OTRO in the consy finals - 30 seconds between him and Hershey... but no go. Against the same guy (Shumac - 10-3) who beat him 5-2 in the prelims.
Gillespie (9-3) and Heberling (9-1) both lost in the prelims and had to face each other in the consy quarters, ensuring a loss for at least one D9 guy. Arg. Gillespie then lost to... Shumac. This guy was a real problem
for D9 all weekend!!

Hornung gets stunned by a pin from Wilcox in the semis, but charges back through the consys for 3rd. The Cathcart-Wilcox match was easily the match of the night, from all accounts.
From a fan:
"At 189 Kyle Cathcart won again over Matt Wilcox from Maplewood. I guess this was a repeat of the State Finals last year. Wilcox took Cathcart down first and Cathcart reversed. Kyle got an escape in the second period and then the two traded two point moves back and forth and Kyle won 7-6. If I can get personal for a second it was probably one of the best indiviual matches I've seen, if not the best. Apparently the crowd thought so to because when it was over they gave both wrestlers a standing ovation. 'Well worth the price of admission' as the saying goes. The sportmanship during the match and after was fantastic by both wrestlers. This is was wrestling is all about and should be for all matches in my opinion."

Here, 9-1 and 9-3 both WON in the prelims, thus facing each other and guaranteeing a loss for a D-9 guy. Arg again. Scott drops and eventually loses a 3-2 squeaker to DeArment (10-1)!!!! Not BAD for a kid that was seeded 8th at Districts! Congrats on a great post-season to Ben Scott!
Clark was dominant in his run to finals, but Holsopple (10-3) picked up a firm 8-3 win. This after facing DeArment (10-1) in the semis Ya have to wonder who beat Holsopple in Districts?? DeArment ? - in which case this was sweet revenge - or Allen (10-2)? - who went 0-2, pinned by none other than Ben Scott in the prelims.
