PC'S Adam Farabaugh Wins 135 Title At Panther Classic
CRESSON, PA - Penn Cambria's Adam Farabaugh did something for wrestling novices on Saturday.

While 12 of the Penn Cambria Panther Classic championship bouts resulted in decisions that were suited to people understand and appreciate the intricacies of the sport, like individuals who prefer defensive football and pitching duels, Farabaugh provided a change of pace that even somebody with only a rough-sketch knowledge of grappling could understand. He soundly beat his opponent. He whipped him. He dropped him. He controlled him. And then he pinned him. In general, his performance was not tough to understand.

Wrestling in the next-to-last bout of the night due to a drawing that started the championship round with the 145-pound match, Farabaugh dropped Burrell's Cole Speer in 3:41 during the 135-pound championship bout. The victory not only made Farabaugh the only champion from the LHSPORTS region, but it also handed him the 100th victory of his career, breaking a tie he previously held with Penn Cambria assistant coach and former Panther wrestler Ryan Barr for the most wins in school history at 99.

"It (setting the record) was something I always wanted to do, since Ryan Barr set it," said Farabaugh, whose Panthers finished eighth with 112.5 points, while the rest of the 18-team field included Altoona (7th place / 115.5), Cambria Heights (12th / 72), Berlin (13th / 69) and Richland (16th / 42).

All total, the competition - an event won by Penn Trafford (197.5 points) that also featured Jim Thorpe, a high school located in the most famous city in Pennsylvania to ever basically win an auction for a corpse and rename itself after an Indian Olympian as part of a deal that saw his remains buried in the town he never saw as a tourist attraction - featured 18 state qualifiers and eight 2000-01 place winners at that event. Among the athletes, four other local performers also gained runner-up honors: Berlin's Ben Lorson (119 pounds), Richland's Chad Sichak (145), Altoona's Jason Jimenez (152) and Altoona's Ryan Beers (heavyweight).

Cambria Heights head coach Rick Bishop discussed that level of competition by stating, "It's at a regional level. Here you've got the top regional kids and undoubtedly there's a ton of state qualifiers here."
